In 2010 I was asked to put together and lead a group of photographers in order to create a comprehensive collection of images that would show clearly how child labor is an omnipresent reality in many latin american countries, and what the Proniño Program is doing to get them back to school. About 5 million children work in Latin America, and that is the area where Proniño operates. Walter Astrada, Álvaro Ybarra Zavala, Lurdes R. Basolí, Renzo Giraldo and myself spent a few weeks in five different countries photographing and interviewing these children. Here is a sample of my part, shot entirely in Panama. The project was commissioned by Fundación Telefónica / Proniño. A book was published by Lünwerg, and I edited a 6 minutes multimedia to promote the initiative.
