I just won a World Press Photo and of course I am celebrating.
Why wouldn't I, given the fact that I submitted my work voluntarily?
Awards do not exist only to feed photographer's ego. Awards exist to highlight two main dimensions: first, what has been covered, and how it was covered.
Awards are not only a career matter for the nominal winner, but also a message from the story makers to the media and policy makers. They are telling what they think is an important subject, and what's the best way to show it.
